Mikaela Martin
Hi my name is Mikaela Martin, and I am a 16 year old Equitation rider and showjumper.
I have been lucky enough to grow up on a stable yard owned by my mom called Penbritte and have therefore been riding for most of my life.
I had a very successful pony rider career by producing 3 of my 4 ponies to open level. I have won several titles on my legendary pony Bronze Master including 1.10m Pony rider SA champs and most stylish rider. I was also in the Open Gauteng Pony Rider team, jumping all clears in the show helping my team to come 2nd.
In 2020 I rode Penbritte Quick Silver in the Open Children classes coming 2nd in the Youth Champs Championship class.
My junior career stated with Cosmic Girl who took me from a pony rider to jumping, junior 1.30/1.35m in a year.
We won several championships such as junior 1.30m Spring Fair, Blouberg Cup and Shongweni Youth Series. Cosmic is now happily retired at the age of 20, while I am producing my young warmblood Penbritte Quick Silver.
Although young, Quick has won Spring Fair 2021, 1.20m Championship and Victor Ludorum, FEI Silver tour and 2021, 1.20m Youth Championship and Victor Ludorum to mention a few.
I was in the 2021 Junior Gauteng Showjumping team, jumping the only clear and helping our team to win. I was also in the Open Gauteng Equitation team coming 2nd individually in the team event but being part of the winning Equitation team.
2022, Quick won the 1.30m Junior Championship at Easter and the FEI Gold Tour. The Stokkies Draai 1.30m Championship and the 1.30m SASJ Youth Series Championship at Stokkies Draai in August.
Quick jumped came 2nd in the 1.20m Youth Championsip and I came 5th in a very large Open Equitation Championship at Youth Champs.
I was extremely grateful to become a TacknTogs Brand ambassador in 2021 and cannot thank my sponsors TacknTogs and Epol enough. I honestly consider myself very lucky to have their backing and support.
I am coached by my mom Belinda Martin and recently by Amy Tolmay for Equitation. I love my horses and spend lots of time with them.
I love the bond I have with them. My dad is a vet and growing up on a yard means that I am use to the long hours and dedication it takes to take care of animals.
After retiring Cosmic Girl, we were offered a lovely horse called TacknTogs Alzu Vulcan, which we bought in February.
I have had two shows with him this year and came 3rd in the Michel van Eck series (1.35m) and 3rd overall in the Junior President’s cup after receiving a 7th, 7th and 3rd in a very competitive competition.
